Today was filled with several, uninteresting missions. Nothing particularly exciting, but I thought I'd take some photos along the way just for the fun of it...
Mission One: Find internet cafe to complete Police Clearance.
Mission One: Find internet cafe to complete Police Clearance.
Apparently our current Police Clearances were not sufficient for the teaching agency. So I left D in charge of finding an internet cafe close by to scan and print out everything we needed. Goodness knows what possessed the man to choose one on the other side of London (sometimes I wonder why I give him so much responsibility), I think I deserved points for not once questioning his choice in location... We arrived at Bethnal Green and began to walk through the streets to find the place we needed. The sun beamed down and I very quickly regretted my choice of a long sleeve knit (just kidding, it was gorgeous... I was totally willing to suffer for fashion in this instance). We eventually found the seedy internet cafe and I managed to fumble my way through all the forms. Mission Status: Complete |
Mission Two: Walk to Brick Lane to meet up with bearded high-school friend.
| After a long and very warm walk through the stinky streets of East London (no really, they smell like rotting cabbage), we arrived at Brick Lane. I was greeted by a slightly underwhelming 'iced mocha' and a bad choice of salad (only hippy options available at that place, falafel was the closest thing I could find to actual meat). The place itself was pretty random. I dislike the use of the word 'random' (reminds me of my years in Primary School, when anything that was funny was also, "like, totally random!"), but I think I'm using the most appropriate term in this case. The décor seemed to be thrown together with no consideration what so ever. As if the shop owner walked into a Good Sammies, took one look at the junk and said "I'll take it all!" ... The forks were in containers made of lego, the walls could be written on in chalk in places where crusty, unknown band posters weren't hanging, there was a mix of soft couches and stools sprawled in no particular order throughout the small place and barristers who sported un-matching attire and came complete with at least one visible tattoo. I find it all a bit tacky, but I think the modern term is "indie". We did our best to fit in, but quite frankly, felt out of place the entire time. D and I just aren't 'random' enough I suppose... He's too classic and I'm too aware of colour coordinated outfits and matching cutlery. Mission Status: Complete in uncomfortable surroundings (it was lovely to see you though Moshman) |
Mission Three: Purchase a Poodle-covered-Parka.
To be fair, this mission wasn't included in the original plan of the day... But who can resist a poodle covered parka? D and I have witnessed first hand how the weather in London can change in an instant, and despite being caught in the rain only once, it was enough for me. This (slightly over priced) parka jacket was instantly verified when we were walking back home. The clouds blew over and look who was completed prepared for the occasion (Mum would be proud). I was able to unleash the poodle-covered-parka to the world and set her off on her maiden voyage.
For the record, the rest of the walk home was made about a million times more exciting and I arrived mostly dry and with a goofy grin on my face. Just look at those poodles? Who could be miserable with a thousand little doggies looking up at you?

Below are before and after images... Proof that the poodle-covered-parka instantly improves demeanour and obliterates your worries. Case in point, friends. Case. In. Point.
Mission Status: Successful in every respect of the word.
Here are some other photos from today, however everything was overshadowed (of course) and far less interesting (no doubt) due to the happiness that the poodle-covered-parka bought to me.
Even the pigeon who joined us for lunch was unexciting in comparison... Just kidding, it was hilarious.
